Meditation and Quiet Time

For 10 minutes twice each day, boys are invited to leave all material, emotional and mental concerns and concentrate on coming to an inner rest and peace. The only rule at Quiet Time is - "do not disturb the peace of another man".

Boys are encouraged to meditate. This may take any form, but through the School of Meditation in London, we offer those who wish it, a mantra-based approach which is simple and effective. Boys with a strong faith use the periods for prayer. Some practise simple breathing exercises which bring mindfulness and presence. Some just sit. Others will read something of a spiritual or emotional value.

We also respect the quiet of the present moment at the beginning and end of each activity. This is called ‘The Pause'. Boys are encouraged to clear their minds of everything, rest for a few moments in their own peace, and then dedicate what is to come to a Supreme authority - God, Absolute, Allah, Jesus - howsoever they conceive of that divinity. The essence of our philosophy is that we all share the same divine nature which is full of knowledge, consciousness and happiness.
