A Place for Phoebe on National Youth Theatre course

Deputy Head Girl Phoebe Gallagher in Year 13 has won a place on the prestigious Summer course run by the National Youth Theatre. Phoebe, who is currently studying History, English and Religious Studies at A' level hopes to study Drama at Trinity College, Dublin. She is thrilled by this success and we are delighted for her.

A Level Geography Field Trip

In early April four geography students visited South Wales for their A-Level fieldwork, accompanied by Mr Burrows and Mrs Hockley.  Many varied activities were packed into the three days including measuring how a river changed downstream, investigating recent developments in a rural village, finding out how a sheep farmer has diversified use of his land for nature conservation and recreation, and an enjoyable visit to Big Pit coalmine. We were also fortunate to be able to see a micro-electricity scheme using a water-powered turbine in action. The students were able to vividly understand the extent to which the settlements and economic activities of a rural area such as the Brecon Beacons are linked to its unique physical geography.

Bill Nighy visits the Girls' School!!!!

The Girls' school was honoured and delighted to host the award-winning actor, Mr Bill Nighy for an extended visit on the afternoon of Wednesday 14th January.  It had been the good fortune of Mrs de Mattos, of the Drama Department, to encounter Mr Nighy when out Christmas shopping! The chance meeting led to Mr Nighy offering his time to come and visit the school. He stepped into the school building at 12.30pm for lunch and a meeting with the Headmistress, Mrs Laura Hyde. He left at 5.00pm after spending two hours with the entire school conducting a thrilling Question & Answer session.
