About us - Inspection 2004

Overall Summary
St James Independent School for Senior Girls lives by its aims and provides a strong academic education within a loving and united community. The school has a distinctive ethos, to which members of staff are fully committed. This results in a stable, well-disciplined environment in which pupils are enabled to develop particularly well, both spiritually and academically.

What the School Does Well
The school has strengths in many areas. The following are particularly strong:

  • The outstanding spiritual and moral education, which fulfils the aspirations of the founder
  • The air of calm and attention to detail, which stem from the very good leadership of the headmistress
  • The dedication and commitment of the staff, which sustain the distinctive philosophy of the school and ensure good academic achievement
  • Excellent relationships throughout the school that are characterised by courtesy, mutual respect and a sense of unity
  • Very good procedures for assessing and recording the achievement and progress of all pupils
  • Very good links with parents
