Chair of Trustees

Mr Jeremy Sinclair, CBE

Jeremy’s three children went through St James.  He was Chairman of M&C Saatchi plc and, prior to that, was Chairman of Saatchi & Saatchi plc, which he founded along with Maurice and Charles Saatchi in 1970. He is a copywriter by training. His work has won numerous national and international awards.


Jeremy has been a Trustee since 1999.

Trustees

Mr Aatif Hassan

Aatif is a former pupil of St James he is the founder and chairman of Cavendish Education (dyslexia & autism schools) and Dukes Education (mainstream independent schools and colleges group). Aatif is a qualified chartered accountant and has a British Army commission. He was an instructor with the St James Senior Boys’ School Combined Cadet Force (CCF) between 1997 and 2017 and also served as the Chairman of the St James alumni association between 2002 and 2006. 


Aatif is chair of the Pay and Establishments Committee. 

Mr Jerome Webb (Chair of Ashford Governing Body)

A former St James pupil, Jerome is parent to three girls, two of whom have completed their education at St James and one who is still currently at the school. 
 
He has spent many years as a specialist property advisor in the Planning and Development sector. Currently an equity partner at GIA, he has worked on behalf of various banks, institutions, architects and property companies with particular reference to daylight and sunlight, rights of light and other related matters. 
 
Jerome chairs the Estates Committee and is Chair of the Ashford Board of Governors.


Qualifications: BA (Hons) Town and Country Planning (Oxford Brooks University); MA Property Valuation and Law (City University); Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. 
 
 

Mr Hugh Venables

Hugh is currently Administrator of the Education Renaissance Trust, an educational charity.

Hugh has worked in the charity sector since 1990, including for the Prince of Wales’s Business Leaders’ Forum, the research and public education NGO Saferworld, and the international development charity ActionAid. Before 1990, he worked for 20 years in the oil industry.


Qualifications: BSc (Sociology) London.  MBA from Cranfield School of Management. 
 

Mrs Helen de Mattos (Vice-Chair of Ashford Governing Body)

Helen has worked as a teacher in secondary education since 2000 in both state and independent education as a teacher of drama for over 20 years. 

Helen joined St James Senior Girls’ School in 2002 as a music and form teacher. She was invited to develop the drama department from scratch. She successfully ran GCSE and A Level in Drama & Theatre as well as directing the senior school musicals in conjunction with the boys’ school. These included The Sound of Music and Fiddler on the Roof, in the Britten Theatre at The Royal School of Music.


Qualifications: BA Hons.

Mrs Annabel Lubikowski (Chair of Governors, Olympia)

Annabel is married with three children, all of whom attended St James from Reception through to Sixth Form. Michael is a longstanding and involved member of the School of Philosophy and Economic Science. He also has family links to St James Schools, his wife, Sarah-Jane Harper was a former teacher at St James Senior Girls’ School for 6 years.

Mrs Annabel Lubikowski

Annabel is married with three children, all of whom attended St James from Reception through to Sixth Form. Governors

Mr Michael Harper (Vice-Chair)

Mrs Angela Bowman

Angela was married to the late Dr. Peter Bowman and is mother to 4 sons, all of whom attended St James from reception to Year 13. She qualified in Secondary Education and spent the first 12 years of her career in State Comprehensive Schools. She then joined St James under the Headship of Miss Sheila Caldwell, in the Junior School. She remained a class teacher of this age group for 28 years. She now works for herself, supporting children with mild to moderate learning needs. She was governor for a Church of England school in the London Borough of Richmond for 10 years.

Angela is responsible for Safeguarding, including Prevent and e-Safety at the Prep School. She also is the governor responsible for EYFS.


Qualifications: BA (Hons), MPhil, PGCE.

 

Mr Raghu Nandakumara

A former St James pupil and teacher, Raghu is married with 2 children, both of whom have attended St James Prep School.

Raghu is a Cyber Security Engineer. He spent 15 years working in various security architecture and engineering roles in the financial services sector and is currently a Field CTO at a leading cyber security start-up.


Qualifications: MA (Mathematics and Computer Science) Jesus College, University of Cambridge. MSc (Advanced Computing) Imperial College London.

Mrs Mary Sansom

Mary is the Compliance and Pastoral Manager for the Girls’ Day School Trust, where she has worked for over 15 years. Previous to this she was Head of English at a girls’ school in Sussex for seven years, and an English teacher at a boarding school for five years.

Mary is the Nominated Safeguarding Governor for St James Senior Girls’ School.

Mr Martin Kettle

Martin worked at St James Prep School from September 2007 to July 2020. Over the years he took on the roles of Class Teacher, Planning Coordinator, All Staff Duties Co-ordinator, Clubs Coordinator, Assessment & Learning Co-ordinator, 11+ Entrance Co-ordinator and was on the Senior Management Team.

Martin was Deputy Head of the Prep School from 2017 and was Acting Head teacher in 2020.


Qualifications: MA Education, BA Hons First Class.

Governors

Mr Chike Azuonye

Chike is married with two children, all of whom attended St James School from reception to Sixth Form. Chike has been a professional visual artist for over three decades and has delivered bespoke art workshops in both primary and secondary schools, within and outside London. Until recently, Chike also worked as a Facilities Manager in Waterloo, London whilst continuing with his creative practice.

Chike joined the Board of Governors for St James Boys School, Ashford in Autumn 2020 and sits on the Board for the Health and Saftey Committee.     


Qualifications: BA (Hons) Fine and Applied Arts, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Diploma in Digital Origination, University of the Arts London. Artists in Schools Programme, Institute of Education, University of London.

Mr John Meltzer

John is a solicitor who specialises in international litigation, human rights and corporate governance.  

He has strong family connections with St James: his wife was head of music at the junior school and both his daughter and son did all their schooling at St James.  


Qualifications: Bachelor of Laws (L.L.B.), Arts (B.A.), University of Sydney.

Mr Jeffrey Sapiro

Jeffrey is married – his wife is a former St James Junior and Senior Girls’ School teacher. Jeffrey originally trained as a nurse, and practised as a clinician, manager and teacher in a variety of hospital and community health care settings. He went on to follow an academic career at Middlesex University as a principal lecturer and senior manager. He taught medical law and ethics in the department of mental health and social work and led on curriculum and programme development.

Jeffrey serves on the Ashford Board of Governors and is the nominated governor responsible for Child Protection and Newly Qualified Teachers at the school.


Qualifications:  RMN; RGN; CPN Cert; Cert Ed; PGDip Health Care Ethics, Kings College London; MA Medical Law and Ethics, Kings College London; FHEA.

Mrs Mary Chadwick

Mary is a current parent at St James Senior Boys’ School, with all three of her sons attending. Mary is also an alumnus of the St James Prep School.

Mary serves on the Ashford Board of Governors.


Qualifications: Diploma of Higher Education in Nursing studies, MsC in Healthcare Practice
