The St James Schools are owned by a charitable trust, the Independent Educational Association Ltd.
The Trustees and Governors of St James Schools are drawn from men and women who support the concepts of a philosophical education for children and young people.
In order to provide the greatest support to each of our schools and sites, the Board of Trustees formed two governing boards, a combined board for St James Senior Girls’ and St James Prep in Olympia and a separate one for St James Senior Boys’ in Ashford.
The Boards of Governors’ role is to ensure that the schools provide their pupils with the very best education and opportunities, oversee developments at the school and generally support the Heads and the schools. The Boards of Governors sets the schools’ plans and policies.
The Head Teachers report to the Governing Boards and are responsible for all curriculum and daily management matters. The Head Teachers are also responsible for developing the philosophical and spiritual syllabus appropriate to each of their schools.
The Boards of Governors operate under the Board of Trustees which meets as the Independent Educational Association Limited, a registered charity established in 1975. The Board of Trustees has an overarching role looking after all three St James School; Senior Girls’ and Prep School in Olympia and Senior Boys’ in Ashford. Their work includes setting the strategic direction for the schools and taking corporate decisions in relation to its statutory functions.
