All children at St James study Philosophy in a weekly lesson in which they explore different values and virtues. From positivity, to strength or sportsmanship, the children are encouraged to debate and challenge ideas in a respectful and tolerant way.

The lessons are conducted in an atmosphere of trust, in which the children can express themselves freely. They play games and listen to stories, and learn to develop their critical thinking and logic, to ask questions, present strong arguments and spot bad ones. At its core it helps them understand how to be kind, helpful and thoughtful members of the school and society

“Sometimes I don’t believe I can do units and tens but if I remember philosophy or positivity I can do it.” Y1 Pupil
