Year 3 & Year 4
Year 3 & Year 4 are an exciting and challenging time for the children in equal measures. We broaden the curriculum, moving away from topic led learning, introducing new subjects and more in-depth work. The children spend more time with specialist teachers and begin to make significant steps towards a more independent style of learning.
The children enjoy an outstanding art and design programme that includes specialists teaching in Sports, Drama, Dance, Music, Art and Design Technology. They also begin to participate in team sports and represent the school at inter-school matches and ISA fixtures.
A particular highlight of these years are the residential class holidays which the children join for the first time. Recent holidays include three days in New Barn Centre Dorset to learn natural craft and self-sufficiency for Year 3, and a week for Year 4 in Northumberland, taking in Durham Cathedral, Hadrian’s Wall, Bede’s World, Lindisfarne, and Inner Farne.
These are demanding but exciting years for the children as they move towards 11+ preparations.
