As part of our English studies on Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo, Year 7 visited the National Army Museum in Chelsea . The trip provided a fascinating insight into military history and the experiences of soldiers in World War I.
We began with a workshop where we learned about the role of empires in the war and had the chance to try on soldier uniforms. One highlight was researching figures like Billy Bishop, a Canadian pilot awarded the Medal of Honour.
Exploring the museum, we saw weapons, tanks, and propaganda posters that brought history to life. Climbing inside a tank was an unforgettable experience, giving us a glimpse into the conditions soldiers faced. The exhibits spanned different periods, showcasing the evolution of warfare.
The visit was both educational and exciting, deepening our understanding of the past. We highly recommend the National Army Museum as a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts.

At St James, we feel it is important to introduce our pupils to stillness and allow them to discover how to be inwardly free and deeply at ease within themselves. A short period of 5-10 minutes at the beginning and middle of every day is allocated to quietude in which pupils may meditate, contemplate or simply be still – according to their own spiritual inclinations.
