Biology is the scientific study of life. The subject sets out to teach us how organisms came to be and how these organisms interact with each other. By learning about how living things function we can attain a better understanding of ourselves and our environment. In doing so, we can make more informed choices in life. For example; learning about embryo development and stem cells helps us to understand the arguments made in support and against cloning, which then enables us to form our own opinion on the topic. Not only do we study the theory behind the biological concepts, we set out to explore the ethical dilemmas surrounding these ideas; the use of stem cells being one such example.
