Design & Technology is an exciting subject which combines practical and technological skills with creative thinking to design and make products that meet human needs. It is one of those subjects which is very real: you can see, touch and feel what it is you are designing and making. You could describe it as the pursuit of perfection through creating.
Students learn to use current technologies such as CAD/CAM and 3D printing and to consider the impact of future technological developments. They learn to innovate, think creatively and solve problems as individuals and members of a team.
There are opportunities to invent or create something that has never been thought of before. It is a subject which promotes originality and critical thought amongst students, from Year 7 through GCSE and onto A Level.
Perhaps the greatest single useful skill which the subject teaches is problem-solving ability. This is something which is infinitely transferrable no matter what future direction a student may take.
