The Learning Support Department exists to help fulfill the maximum potential of pupils with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD), English as an additional language and those defined as gifted and talented.
Through one-to-one tutorials, as well as support within the classroom, pupils are given targeted support, tailored to the individual, in literacy, numeracy, study skills and organisational management.
In addition, the department’s work includes:
- Multi-sensory teaching
- Access arrangements for public exams
- Screening with a view to recommending a professional assessment
- Referral to external agencies when appropriate
- Regular liaison with staff and parents
- Staff training
Teaching staff in the learning support department are qualified in teaching those with Specific Learning Difficulties, combine teaching pupils with the management of the department and its small team of tutors and learning support assistants.
Extra charges apply to those in receipt of in-class-support and specialist tutorials.
