Happy New Year
I feel we need to be really positive this year - despite the seeming confusion in the political world. Perhaps, I might suggest that this is a good time to see where we are and what is important to us, what we really value.
Last term finished superbly well and I thought the Carol Service was both beautiful and profound. The choice of music was beautifully balanced, the choir sang like angels and the pupils chosen to read spoke with gravity and poise. It was a lovely communal occasion.
This term is a busy one for me as I interview all the prospective new pupils. We have maintained this process of interviewing every pupil and their parents when they apply to join St James as we really do want families who want a truly holistic education for their sons. I will reiterate again Sir Anthony Seldon’s words when he spoke last term that, ‘...St James is where other schools are trying to get.’
My interview schedule will mean that I am less available for meetings in January and early February, but I am blessed by an excellent Senior Management Team who will respond rapidly to any concerns you have: for the Sixth Form contact Mr David Beezadhur, for Academic Matters it is Dr Richard Bustin and for general matters it is Mr Charles Neave.
We will continue to build on our awards of recent years for physical education and parental engagement; to retain and recruit excellent teachers and maintain our embedded use of true knowledge and practices from the world's wisdom traditions. St James is real education in action and our fire burns bright.
It is exciting to be back.
