A great success this year has been the change to Wednesday Clubs for Years 7 & 8. It is wonderful to see the pupils developing chess and refining their attention painting their Warhammer Miniatures. Comedy Club sounds great fun and we hope this will lead to some future stand-up comedians. These clubs are renewed and developed each term. The option sheets for the Summer Term will be out soon and this is a term where we can really use the outside environment.
The pupils in Years 9 -11 have continued to enjoy a series of eclectic and enriching Ficino Society talks each week. This Term so far they have heard about Tax Evasion from Gary Forbes, Entrepreneurship from Paul Palmarozza, Learning From One’s Mistakes by old boy Simon Coulson, Story Telling (The Arthurian Cycle) by Corrine Harrigan, Future Technology by parent Mr Ritter and an inspiring talk by former Sussex Opening batsman and three time County Championship Winner Richard Montgomery on Teamwork. The objective was to develop listening skills and effective questioning. These talks will continue until exam season when the hall will be out of commission.
I will be looking to continue the talks next year and would really appreciate some more parental volunteers. Please reach out and let Mrs Patel know if you could offer a talk on a Wednesday afternoon. Most speakers come for lunch before speaking, 1.30 until 2.15.
