St James Senior Boys' School was inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) between 8 and 10 May 2019.

The School achieved very positive outcomes for the Educational Quality aspect of the inspection. A judgment of 'good' was received for the 'achievement of pupils' and a judgment of 'excellent' for the 'personal development of pupils'. We are very pleased with these outcomes which we believe evidences a full realisation of the St James ethos.

With regard to 'Regulatory Compliance', inspectors found that the School met 'almost all' of the required standards but identified that some required pre-appointment checks had not been completed on a small number of staff before they commenced work. These checks were limited to verification of identity, medical fitness and qualifications. They were subsequently undertaken and no concerns were identified. The School carries out enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service checks and Children's Barred List checks on staff in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Inspectors therefore determined that the School did not meet the standards with regard to the appointment of staff and consequently did not meet the standards relating to 'Leadership and Management'. This was disappointing but we now have the opportunity to address this issue and have already started to put in place measures at both an operational and governance level aimed at preventing a re-occurrence.

We are however pleased that there is much in the report which reflects very positively on the School. To view the new report please click here
