The Archery Club takes place on Wednesday evenings either in the schools Moot Hall or if the weather permits, on the front lawn. Archery is taught by an experienced Archery Coach and pupils work their way through the International Archery Federations Junior Archery awards. There is a House competition and fixtures against local schools. The Archery Club is first come – first served and has a small cost attached.
Tae Kwon-Do takes place in the Moot Hall on a Thursday evening and is taught by a highly experienced Tae Kwon-Do instructor. Pupils work towards the graded belts and it is hoped that interest will be sufficient to run a House competition in the near future. Committed students can expect to gain their ‘Black Belt’ by the time they leave St James. There is a small cost attached to this Club.
Open Water Swimming
The St James Sharks Open Water Swimming Club swims throughout the year and has the ultimate goal of developing a team of swimmers to swim in relay across the English Chanel. During the winter months, the Sharks swim at Hampton Open Air Pool, but as soon as the water is warm enough, training takes place in the schools lake. Once the boys are ready, they compete in a series of Open Water Swimming events at locations such as Eton’s Dorney Lake, Windsor, Hampton and in the English Chanel on the south coast. The Sharks intend to take on the unique challenges posed by swimming across the English Chanel within the next two years.
The St James Climbing Club climb on a Wednesday evening at the Westway Climbing Centre in Shepherds Bush. The sessions are led by a team of highly qualified instructors who lead the boys through the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme, teaching them the skills needed to climb, boulder and lead climb safely and effectively. Regular climbing expeditions and training weekends take place during the year to challenge the climbers in the natural environment, building up to the Alpine Expedition which takes place every two years.
