Houses
At St James, we operate a house system to foster relationships across Year groups and to instil a sense of healthy competition.
The houses are named after well-known figures from history. They are all great men who have overcome adversity and demonstrated their leadership skills by putting other people first and leading them to victory:
- Nelson
- Churchill
- Wellington
- Marlborough
Throughout the year we run several house competitions. We also keep a running total of the merits the boys receive – these are awarded by teachers to students who consistently display excellent behaviour or whom improve significantly at a task or challenge. The merit totals are displayed around the school and are sorted by house. The members of the House with the highest number of merits at the end of the first term are treated to an ice-skating trip.
The house to which a boy belongs is denoted by the colour of his tie and of his P.E. shirt.
