Athletics is one of the most successful sports at St James due, primarily, to the amount of time devoted to teaching it. All pupils in Years 7 and 8 have Athletics as one of their core sports in the Summer Term and are extensively taught 11 different events during this time. We feel that developing the pupils’ understanding of the athletic skills of running, jumping and throwing is absolutely vital to a pupil’s growth as a young man.

The pupils are then given the opportunity to refine their techniques during extra-curricular clubs to fully prepare them for an extensive and high-profile fixture list. The 7 athletics teams compete in local events against other schools in the build up to the Independent Schools Athletics Regional Championships, where we have won over 30 gold medals in the last two years. Winners of gold medals at the Regionals go on to represent the area at the National Championships where we have had 3 National Champions in the last two years.
