St James hosts Robert Swan, the first person to walk to both the North and South Poles!

St James was honoured to host Polar Explorer, Robert Swan!

A trailblazer in the world of exploration as the first person to walk to both the North and South Poles, he delivered an inspiring talk that captivated both Prep and Senior Girls pupils.

During his presentation, Swan shared breathtaking stories from his polar expeditions, offering a unique perspective on the real and urgent impacts of climate change. His experiences at the planet’s extremities have fueled his lifelong commitment to protecting Antarctica and advocating for global environmental stewardship. Swan’s dedication to sustainability and his efforts to inspire future leaders to take meaningful action resonated deeply with our pupils and staff.

The event was not only a chance to hear from a pioneering explorer but also an opportunity to reflect on the importance of embracing sustainable practices.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Robert Swan for his time, insights, and passion, as well as to the parent who made this incredible event possible.

The Pause

At St James, we feel it is important to introduce our pupils to stillness and allow them to discover how to be inwardly free and deeply at ease within themselves. A short period of 5-10 minutes at the beginning and middle of every day is allocated to quietude in which pupils may meditate, contemplate or simply be still – according to their own spiritual inclinations.
