The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is a fantastic way for senior school students to develop their independent learning skills beyond their A Levels. Developing appropriate questions, identifying relevant high-quality resources, referencing, managing their time and plans, are all part of what makes a strong independent learner. The two assessed presentations evenings were wonderful opportunities to celebrate this achievement.
Manon’s title was “Does the United Nations fulfil its purpose?” and was supervised by Ms Basma.
Skyla’s title was “Are we close to eradicating Gender Bias in the UK today?” and was supervised by Mr Treloar.
Anjali’s title was “Who had a bigger impact on shaping modern day Iran – the Shah or religion?” and was supervised by Ms McDonagh.
Rosalind’s title was “Can money buy happiness?” and was supervised by Ms Chaudagne.
Lilliana’s title was “Is the bible being misused?” and was supervised by Ms Amador.
Zelda’s title was “Is Romance Reality TV Dystopian?” and was supervised by Ms Sole-Bonet.
Dahlia’s title was “Where does responsibility lie in the development of African countries?” and was supervised by Mrs Boddy.
Sophia’s title was “Are we doing enough to prevent the outbreak of nuclear war?” and was supervised by Mrs Childs.
The variety of interests and the confidence in their presentations made for highly enjoyable evenings. We too are confident that all these valuable skills they worked so hard for, will accompany them well in their futures.

At St James, we feel it is important to introduce our pupils to stillness and allow them to discover how to be inwardly free and deeply at ease within themselves. A short period of 5-10 minutes at the beginning and middle of every day is allocated to quietude in which pupils may meditate, contemplate or simply be still – according to their own spiritual inclinations.
