GCSE

Pupils start the IGCSE (9-1) content in the beginning of Year 9 and sit the exam at the end of Year 11. We follow the Pearson Edexcel Mathematics A Higher Tier syllabus with several opportunities for problem solving and investigations along the way. There is no coursework and a demanding syllabus stretches the girls’ mathematical knowledge and abilities. Calculus and functions form part of the syllabus, which provides an excellent foundation for A Level. All aspects of number, algebra, shape and space and handling data are also covered. The most advanced girls have the opportunity to study for the AQA Level 2 Further Mathematics qualification in Year 11, alongside their IGCSE.

In addition to the set textbooks, a variety of teaching and learning methods are used such as group work, worksheets, games and activities. We also use technology increasingly where it enhances learning and subscribe to some mathematical web-sites for teaching, homework and revision.
