Just before the Easter holidays we had the opportunity to take part in the St James Bake Off which was hosted by one of our Year 7 forms. Those taking part chose which categories to enter their cakes.  The categories were for Big Cakes, Cupcakes, Free From (eggs, gluten etc), Best Decorated.

All the cakes brought in were judged and then they were sold in a cake sale which raised over £60 for our school's charity St Mungo's.

There were some amazing cakes including a unicorn, a beach scene and an especially wonderful cake (made by Katie in Year 10) which looked like a watermelon, even including 'seeds' made from chocolate chips.

The winners from each of the categories went to a masterclass with chef and former pupil Sophia Salloum.  At the masterclass we learned how to make sugar flowers and how to decorate a cake.  We all really enjoyed the workshop and Sophia taught us really well and told us amazing stories from her career.  Overall we loved the experience and it was loads of fun (especially eating the cake!).
