The performing arts at St James Senior Girls’ School are thriving. Most of our productions take place in our assembly hall, fully equipped with lighting and sound, with a seating capacity of 300. We also collaborate with the Senior Boys’ School, on a joint musical venture performed every other year (‘The Wizard of Oz’ 2015, ‘Les Miserables’ 2017).
There are performance opportunities for all pupils every year: Years 7-9 perform a play one year and a musical the next. Recent productions include: ‘Arabian Nights’ (2016) and ‘The Lion King’ (2017). Years 10-13 can also be involved in a production each year, the biennial musical with the Senior Boys’ School is always popular.
Throughout the year there are opportunities to get involved with drama through LAMDA examinations, House competitions and Arts Week in the Spring Term. Year 8 also undertake a Shakespeare Project, culminating in participation in the Shakespeare Schools’ Festival in Year 9.
