Sports Week 2023

Staying active and staying strong

Kickboxing, rowing, golf, tennis and guest speakers… this year’s Sports Week was high in action and in spirits.

On Monday, while Year 7 tried out kickboxing in the afternoon, Year 8 ventured to Surrey Sports Park where they took turns playing friendly games of squash, tennis and touch rugby.

On Tuesday, during assembly, we were very fortunate to welcome Kelly Simmons OBE, to speak to our students about her

experience as Director of the Women’s Professional Game, as well as her aspirations to develop access to football to all girls and boys, and inspiring positive change around women in professional football.

Year 10 then went to the driving range at Duke’s Meadows where they received a golf lesson.

On Wednesday, the PE department hosted the annual House Lacrosse

tournament for students across the school.

The results over all year groups were as follows:

1st place – St Catherine

2nd place – St Helena

3rd place – St Genevieve

4th place – St Margaret

On Thursday, students were given the opportunity to have a taster session in padel tennis and rowing at Rocks Lane in Chiswick.

Finally, on Friday, we were delighted to receive Claire Danson, Team GB Handcyclist, to talk to our students about her journey. She led a compelling discussion centred around the mindset behind competitive sports, disability and taking small steps.

This was a truly insightful assembly, which led the girls to reflect on positive versus negative frames of mind, bravery, unlimited ambition and kindness to others.

What an amazing wrap-up to this year’s Sports Week!
