SEND Department

At St James, we know that every pupil is unique. Because every pupil learns in different ways, we aim to maximize the educational achievement and personal wellbeing of all pupils.

– SENDCo

The Learning Support Department at St James is led by the SENDCo and supported by staff members and professionals who work to remove the barriers to learning.

We understand the importance of providing an inclusive education. This includes pupils with English as an Additional Language and those with health needs.

At St James, we know that every pupil is unique. Because every pupil learns in different ways, we aim to maximize the educational achievement and personal wellbeing of all pupils.

The SEND Policy and its implementation is underpinned by the Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice: 0 to 25 (SEND CoP 2014). Pupils identified as having a specific need are supported with their learning; reasonable adjustments are made to allow them to have access to the curriculum. We also welcome advice and guidance from external professionals to inform our teaching.

We work collaboratively with pupils, teachers and parents to develop and implement strategies that facilitate their learning through an understanding of neurodiversity.

Staff are also kept up to date with current research, to provide best practice for all children as they get the results they deserve.

Where next?

The Pause

At St James, we feel it is important to introduce our pupils to stillness and allow them to discover how to be inwardly free and deeply at ease within themselves. A short period of 5-10 minutes at the beginning and middle of every day is allocated to quietude in which pupils may meditate, contemplate or simply be still – according to their own spiritual inclinations.
