Recently, our class of Year 12 French students participated to a stimulating online debate Colyton Grammar School in East Devon. The motion was whether artificial intelligence poses a threat to humanity, a topic that has sparked intense debate discussions globally. Prior to the debate, both sets of students researched the topic, gathering evidence both for and against the motion. The 15-minute exchange was then conducted entirely in French and both groups spoke beautifully.
Ultimately, the debate concluded without a definitive resolution. However, what stood out was the students’ enthusiasm, intellectual curiosity, and dedication to exploring issues in a foreign language, creating a space for thoughtful dialogue.
