The Minerva Society at St James Senior Girls’ School organises a series of academic enrichment talks throughout the year titled the Minerva Talks, which are open to all our pupils, parents and alumni. They offer amazing opportunities to learn about areas beyond the curriculum, and dive deeper into particular academic subjects.
Latest Minerva Talks welcomed Mr Tony Mann, director of the Mathematics Centre at the University of Greenwich and Dr Martin Dachsel, Clinical Lead for Acute Medicine at Surrey and Sussex NHS trust. They both gave their professional insight on how Maths are used in everyday life, from the Maths in our calendar and Leap Days, to Maths in modern medicine practice.
Special mention and thanks to the amazing team of Minerva form reps, who help out with a range of tasks, such as presenting or thanking the speaker, serving refreshments, helping with the posters and more!
At St James, we feel it is important to introduce our pupils to stillness and allow them to discover how to be inwardly free and deeply at ease within themselves. A short period at the beginning and end of every lesson is allocated to quietude, in which pupils may meditate, contemplate or simply be still – according to their own spiritual inclinations.
With nearly 50% of grades at A* or A every year, and over 90% of leavers gaining a place at their first-choice university, we are committed to supporting you to achieve your best through our unique philosophy-based approach.
