“On the last day of an action packed half term, the St James Senior Girls’ Sixth Form was invited to our brother school St James Senior Boys’ School, for a lecture from Good Morning Britain journalist Jonathan Swain.

The intrepid nature of Swain’s job became clear almost immediately as he informed us that he was meant to be reporting from Marseille that afternoon, but rather decided to join us in sunny Ashford. Swain spoke excitedly on his career thus far, highlighting moments such as visiting Iraq in 2003 and Boris Johnson’s infamous “fridgegate”. He conveyed the importance of branching out in starting out a career like his, explaining how he contacted anyone who could give him a break, whether they listened or not.

Moreover, Jonathan certainly left us all with an understanding of the stresses and gratification of a journalistic career, and we thank him for taking his time to impart his Wisdom onto us.”
