A Level

We offer the OCR Board syllabus, specialising in Fine Art. We tailor to the needs of each individual girl and focus on their particular study. The approach is holistic: integrating critical evaluation alongside creative development whilst aiming for high technical achievement.

In the first year of A Level, all students are given the opportunity to learn new skills and deepen their knowledge and understanding of the subject. They initially explore both the figure and its surroundings and by the end of year 12, students branch out in more personal directions in order to produce a varied and in-depth art portfolio.

The Autumn Term and some of the Spring Term of Year 13 are devoted to the preparation of final pieces for coursework submission. Pupils then begin their externally set assignment, set by the exam board and produce preparation studies, both in and out of their sketchbooks and a final piece in the exam itself.

The course is supported by weekly life drawing classes over the two years and a weekly art club run by department staff.

Results over the past years have been excellent both at GCSE and at A Level. Sixth Form girls leave the school having achieved a high level of expertise and creativity.  Many of our students take up places at reputable art colleges and universities including Central Saint Martins and the Royal Drawing School.
