A Level

Drama & Theatre is taught at A Level by the Head of Drama. We follow the Welsh Examination Board (Wjec) at GCSE and A Level which offers the opportunity to devise and create theatre and also to explore the principles which underpin effective drama practice. The aim is to produce an understanding of Drama and Theatre as an influential cultural, social and historical form of expression. Textual study includes the in-depth analysis and evaluation of four texts which offer a range in period, style and genre. Practical units focus on devised projects directly related to a Theatre Practitioner and the realization of two productions, one each year.

Pupils also participate in professional workshops and see at least four to six live productions a year to fulfil assessment objectives. Recent inclusions have been: ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, ‘Medea’, ‘The Lady from the Sea’, ‘The Seagull’ and ‘Young Marx’.

Pupils can also take part in the LAMDA Club which is run by an experienced teacher and voice coach, two sessions are offered to pupils in Years 10 – 13. Pupils are prepared for graded examination in Spoken Verse & Prose for Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards.
